Investigation and analysis of photovoltaic power station damage in Hainan Island induced by typhoon Yagi

  • Super typhoon Yagi caused severe damage to photovoltaic (PV) power stations in the northeastern part of Hainan Island. To assess the extent and causes of this damge, a field investigation was conducted on 35 PV arrays located within the typhoon's level 12 wind circle. The surveyed areas included Wengtian Town, Wenchang City, Meilan District, Tunchang County, Chengmai County, and other regions of Haikou City, Hainan Province. The damage levels of the PV arrays was classified to summarize the overall impact on PV power plants. Additionally, the damage characteristics and underlying causes were analyzed based on component classification. The findings indicate that the primary damage mechanisms involved PV panel destruction, connector failures, purlin and bracket damage, and support column collapse. Based on these results, recommendations for restoration, reconstruction, as well as wind disaster prevention and mitigation measures for PV power plants were proposed.
