Abstract: This paper represents a summary of the status and trends of image retrieval techniques on the Internet.This paper thoroughly analyses three types of image retrieval techniques,including text-based image retrieval,content-based image retrieval,and semantic-based image retrieval.Based on a large number of papers on this area,comparative research on these techniques is given first.And（finally）,this paper puts forward some valuable research areas.
